Agate is the gemstone that everyone should have for protection. It is said to protect from stress, energy drains, and bad dreams, and attract strength. Give a gift of Indian Agate jewellery, and you can wish a friend or loved-one good luck and protection for many occasions: Going on a journey (on holiday, or a business trip, for example), a relative about to have an exam,  or possibly as a get well gift for an ill friend (a hospital patient for example), an elderly retired relative, or a bereaved friend.

In ancient times, Agate was highly valued as a talisman or amulet. Some believed it rendered the wearer invisible 🙂 It is also believed to enhance the wearer’s courage, improve perception and concentration, stimulate analytical capabilities and precision, and to provide protection from danger. Agate is said to promote strength and healing, and ensure a healthy life. It is also thought to enhance a love of nature, as well as cleanse the soul and restore wit. Early Greeks used Agate in the form of amulets as protection from the danger of the sea. In medieval times Agate was worn to attract God’s favour, and make someone agreeable and persuasive. It was also believed to be able to bring about strength and victory.

Scallop shell earrings to wish safekeeping, especially for travellers

These delicate scallop shells (concha de vieira) represent the symbol of the Camino de Santiago. The 1,000-year-old route to the great Cathedral city of Santiago de Compostela is known as the Way of St. James (El Camino de Santiago - in Spanish), and it is a renowned journey and adventure, as well as being a pilgrimage for some people of the Christian faith.

If you want to wish your friends or colleagues well and show them how much you care (especially for someone travelling), let us send this meaningful present on your behalf. It is the ideal gift for any special event / occasion, particularly for someone starting out on a new adventure in life - like a new job, travelling afar or even beginning retirement.

Dimensions: These beautiful little 14ct Gold-Filled Camino earrings feature a dainty double scallop shell which measures 12mm across. They hang on 14ct Gold-Filled 14mm ear-wires.

Is Gold-Filled the same as Gold-Plated / Vermeil?

No, it is much better: Gold-Filled is a layer of solid gold, pressure-bonded into another metal. Whereas Gold-Plating is a very thin layer of gold that is 'plated' onto the surface of a metal. (Vermeil just means that the plated item is made of silver: Nothing more; it is still just Gold-Plated.) So, Gold-Filled has a much higher value than simple Gold-Plating or Vermeil because it contains a much greater quantity of gold; and is of higher quality because of the way that gold is included: Once termed “Rolled-Gold” it has a long history - although the modern process wasn't patented until Victorian times in England. It is much more precious and tarnish-resistant than Gold-Plated / Vermeil: It does not rub off or flake or change colour.

Info about El Camino:

The 1,000-year-old Way of St. James (El Camino de Santiago - in Spanish), criss-crosses Western Europe, arriving at Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain on the Atlantic coast. At least 200,000 people travel to the city each year from all over the world: Some people walk, others travel by bike. Many travellers choose to do the Camino for personal, rather than any spiritual or religious reasons - taking time out from their busy, modern lives and perhaps finding inspiration along the way, whilst reflecting on their lives in a supportive environment. Many carry with them a Scallop shell symbol like this. Everyone experiences the journey in a different way.

Whatever somebody’s journey - whether on El Camino itself, on holiday, a business trip, a gap year, trekking, etc, many friends and loved-ones like to pass on a special gift to wish the recipient well on their travels - and safekeeping along the way. These earrings are perfect for that purpose. In addition to any value that the Camino charm symbol has in itself, or the religious faith that it might represent, these earrings can also act as a reminder to be careful when travelling. And this can be a powerful aid to staying safe whilst away from home. Would make a perfect farewell gift.

Gift these pretty little scallop shell earrings to tell your friends and loved-ones that you are thinking of them or that you'll miss them, and to take care . . it's a really meaningful gift. Comes gift-wrapped, like all our presents - and we can print a personal message on your behalf.
