The fish symbol occurred early in Christian history and, in the second century, St. Clement of Alexandria suggested that Christians identify themselves with a seal engraved with a fish. Consequently, many people used the Fish Symbol to identify themselves to one another – particularly when they were fearful of persecution, and the Christian Fish symbol gained its significance and prominance.
However, from about the fourth century AD, the Cross became a more popular symbol for Christians and started to feature on Christian jewellery; the symbolism of the Christian Fish gradually disappeared. But in recent years, some Christian groups have given their religion a fresh look by reviving the Christian Fish as an alternative (and modern) symbol (including on Christian jewellery) and the fish symbol is now well recognised and used throughout the world . . from Christian Unions, to the Churches . . and now by most Church bodies. But, as with most symbols, it is probably the thought (or association) that is important and, just as prayer has a key meaning to Christians, relying on a ‘lucky’ symbol such as the Christian Fish to bring good fortune or salvation, comes from people’s hearts and minds . . in this case, strongly backed-up by their faith. Consequently, many people wear some sort of Christian jewellery and necklaces, pendants, earrings and bracelets bearing the Christian cross make lovely inspirational gifts that can say many things like Thinking of you, Thanks, Get well, Good luck, Happy birthday, or even Sorry to a friend or to a parent or other relative: a godfather or godmother, grandad or grandma, uncle or aunt, nephew or niece – or simply a work colleague. The Christian cross is universal.
Here at good-luck-gifts.com, we have incorporated the Christian cross and the Fish symbol onto several gifts and items of Christian jewellery. We also have Lourdes spring water jewellery as well as another Christian symbol – the Trefoil on our necklaces and bracelets. Lourdes jewellery has special and unique significance to many people because of the perceived miracle at the Lourdes grotto in France and the subsequent magical power and belief in Lourdes holy water. Lourdes water containing a small vial of this holy water makes a very popular gift. The trefoil symbol, which is used frequently in Church architecture, stained glass, mural decoration and Church embroidery, was common during the late Middle Ages in some parts of Europe as a symbol of the most Holy Trinity, and is still meaningful today.
We also stock an assortment of Christian Crosses on our jewellery gifts – in particular, those famous in Spain: The Caravaca Cross and the Cross of St. James famous on the Camino de Santiago (the pilgrimage Way of St James) across southern France and northern Spain.
Gifts and jewelry featuring a Christian Cross, Fish or Trefoil are especially suitable as presents for people with Christian beliefs at religous ceremonies such as a Christening, a Confirmation or a Holy Communion. But they are also suitable for all sorts of other events or occasions where perhaps an element of faith, inspiration and protection could be beneficial (for example, for someone setting out on a difficult journey, or retiring, or even getting married or engaged, or for an anniversary). And these presents are also ideal for lots of events like father’s day or mother’s day for example, retirement, or going away to university . . for him or for her – man / guy or woman / lady – whether that friend, relative or loved-one is you mum or your dad, your husband or wife, your daughter or son – or simply a good friend.
