Some 200,000 people travel the Camino each year from all over the world: Some people walk, others travel by bike. Many travellers choose to do the Camino for personal, rather than any spiritual or religious reasons - taking time out from their busy/modern lives and perhaps finding inspiration along the way, whilst reflecting on their life in a supportive environment. Detail: These scallop shell earrings measure approx 45mms total length from the top of the hook to the bottom of the charm (Shell charm is 12mm long x 13mm wide, made of Zamak.) They consist of sterling-silver ear wires with silver-coated round-shaped beads plus wood-ash-coloured Greek ceramic beads, finished off with a scallop shell charm at the base.
The beads are from the island of Mykonos which has a deep Christian association: Indeed, for many years, the islanders were required to build a church on their land before they were allowed to build a house, leading to an abundance of churches (the most famous being the Church of Our Lady, one of the most renowned architectural structures in Greece).
