It is believed that Noah hung a huge Garnet to illuminate the night and help steer his Ark to safety: So, travellers started wearing Garnet to light up their journey and to get protection from accidents. Garnet has been used by many explorers and travellers as it is believed to protect the wearer when journeying far from home. In particular, they were worn by the Crusaders as an aid to safely bring them home and to protect them from harm. A Garnet gem stone is often gifted to a loved-one to pass on good luck for their journey, and to someone trying to achieve goals.

With gifts of Garnet jewellery, you can pass on your blessings for many occurrences: To someone travelling (moving abroad, for example), a relative about to enter a competition, a driving test or other exam, or even as a a good luck gift for a business friend.

Garnet is also thought of as the stone of romantic love and passion, enhancing sensuality and intimacy. Although said to be more of a feminine life force and for women’s needs, Garnet is also believed to encourage a quick return of a separated love. Garnets are often gifted to women when they fall in love, and so as Engagement presents. The myth is that the Garnet, as a symbol of truth and purity, will secure someone’s love forever.

Garnet is also thought to be extremely beneficial in the realm of business. Not only is it said to awaken creativity, positive energy, and self-confidence, but the gem stone is supposed to attract people to the wearer, which can help provide personal and business success. Items containing Garnet make an ideal good luck present for people trying to achieve goals, and for business people.

The Chinese use Garnet to cure melancholy, depression and lethargy because of its association with passion, courage and grace.

Garnet is the gemstone for the month of January and can also be associated with the zodiac sign Aquarius.

A really special gift of faith

This is something special and unique: An exquisite solid-silver bookmark which is handcrafted in northern Spain into the shape of the St James cross, and featuring a scallop shell / concha de vieira, the symbol of the Camino de Santiago. “La Cruz de Santiago es un símbolo que favorece el coraje y la esperanza ante las dificultades”

The 1,000-year-old pilgrimage to the shrine of St. James in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is known as the Way of St. James (El Camino de Santiago - in Spanish). Some 200,000 pilgrims travel to the city each year from all over the world to find inspiration and/or deeper spiritual understanding.

This would make an extraordinary gift, for example: A Christening present to treasure for a lifetime; a Communion gift; a religious Christmas present with meaning; or indeed, a special gift for anyone involved with the Camino de Santiago, or of a Christian persuasion.

Description: This petite solid sterling-silver St James cross measures 8.4cms (3.25") in length and 3.6cm (1.45") in width, and features an intricately handcrafted scallop shell in the centre. At the top of the cross is a beautiful red silk tassel.

In Xacobeo 2010 - a Holy Year (Año Santo) in Spain because the Feast of St James (on 25th July) fell on a Sunday, over 272,000 pilgrims completed the final 100 km walk to Santiago and qualified for the 'Compostela' or certificate. The Way of St. James criss-crosses Western Europe, arriving at Santiago through Northern Spain. It is generally regarded as a journey of the body, mind and spirit. Modern pilgrims choose to do the Camino for personal, spiritual and/or religious reasons - or simply to take time out from their busy, modern lives. For many, the walk is to find inspiration - improving their outlook on life, bringing them into closer contact with nature and expanding their cultural horizons through contact with other pilgrims. Everyone experiences the journey in a different way.

Gift this unique St James cross bookmark to wish someone good fortune in their life, or on their journey. Comes gift-wrapped, like all our presents - and we can add a personal message on your behalf
