Coral is one of the most ancient of gem materials, used since prehistoric times . . especially for presents. In ancient China, Coral was a symbol of wealth, favour and high social status. Queens wore necklaces made of Coral for important events such as Birthday celebrations and it was often gifted between royal personages. It is also believed to have protection qualities (especially for women) and so is an ideal good luck present for Mothers Day and Birthday celebrations amongst ladies, girls and women.

Gifts of Coral jewellery are ideal for lots of events like mother’s day for example, valentines day, or retirement, or going away to university . . especially for a female friend – woman / lady / girl – whether that friend, relative or loved-one is your mum or your wife, your daughter – or simply a good friend.

Coral is particularly reputed to help calm people’s lives. It is said to help restore harmony in times of emotional conflict and work against depression. It is like a wise teacher – teaching us to value life and our place in it. It shows people the importance of living, so that we can make the world a good place for all that follow. Indeed, Coral is said to protect children and is given as a lucky gift to children in many countries. It is a beautiful symbol of the importance of creatures and plants living together in harmony. Ideal lucky gift for people leading hectic lifestyles. Coral is one of the seven treasures in Buddhist scriptures; and Tibetan Lamas use Coral rosaries. To Buddhists, Coral is also a treasure that can keep us good and protect people from evil spirits.

The 1,000-year-old pilgrimage to the shrine of St. James in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is known as the Way of St. James (El Camino de Santiago - in Spanish). Some 150,000 pilgrims travel to the city each year from all over the world to find inspiration and/or deeper spiritual understanding. Many carry with them a St James's Cross or scallop shell - believed to promote courage, strength and hope.

Remind your friends or loved-ones to be resolute and positive by sending them this special and meaningful present - gift-wrapped for any event. Perfect for personalising and adding meaning to a bracelet.

Measures 7mm wide and 8mm long with a 4.5mm hole to fit most European-style bracelets and necklaces, or leather ones too. Please note, no bracelet is included although we can supply exceptional value bracelets / chains separately.

In Xacobeo 2010 - a Holy Year (Año Santo) in Spain because the Feast of St James (on 25th July) fell on a Sunday, over 272,000 pilgrims completed the final 100 km walk to Santiago and qualified for the 'Compostela' or certificate. The Way of St. James criss-crosses Western Europe, arriving at Santiago through Northern Spain. It is generally regarded as a journey of the body, mind and spirit. Modern pilgrims choose to do the Camino for personal, spiritual and/or religious reasons - or simply to take time out from their busy, modern lives. For many, the walk is to find inspiration - improving their outlook on life, bringing them into closer contact with nature and expanding their cultural horizons through contact with other pilgrims. Everyone experiences the journey in a different way.

Gift our scallop shells bead to inspire your friends and help them to be fortunate and safe in their life. Comes gift-wrapped - and we can add a personal message on your behalf
