The Tau cross is symbolic of the Franciscan Order, St Francis of Assisi, and especially of pilgrims and travellers embarking on new adventures. It is also symbolic of a kind of reincarnation - a calm acceptance of the current situation but with a patient undertaking to move on into a 'new' life.
